BIOGRAPHYLincoln Delmar Bundy was born in St. George on February 12, 1918.He went to school at the Mt. Trumbull Schoolhouse and ??? in St. George, completing the 8th grade. Lincoln became a rancher on the Arizona Strip. Bundy joined the Army Air Forces (Serial Number 0-804996) in early 1942. He completed flight training with the 63rd Army Air Forces Flying Training Detachment at Douglas, Georgia on April 27, 1943. He began flying P-51 Mustangs with the 8th Air Force and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. Lt. Bundy was piloting a P-51 from the 486th Fighter Squadron of the 352nd Fighter Group on June 10, 1944. He had just finished strafing a German truck convoy near Crulai, Normandy, France when he was shot down and became "missing in action". For half a century, it was assumed he had been killed on that day. On June 11, 1945, Lt. Bundy was declared dead and awarded a Purple Heart. Later, it was determined that Bundy had successfully bailed out and escaped. He joined up with a group of 34 British Special Air Service (SAS) agents operating behind enemy lines. They were captured and on July 7, 1944, Bundy and others were executed by a German Schutzstaffel (SS) firing squad and buried in a mass grave near St. Sauvant. These soldiers' remains were found in December 1944, but identification of Bundy didn't come until much later. FAMILY
