BIOGRAPHY
Jimmie Hughes was born on May 5, 1928 on the Hughes family ranch at the base of the Sanford Mountains, just outside of Panguitch, Utah.Hughes served an LDS mission in the North Central States and served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He raised his family in St. George where he was heavily involved with the Boy Scouts, was a Little League Baseball coach, and worked as a custodian at Woodward Middle School.
On September 22, 1970, Jimmy died after crashing a short-bed dump truck off an embankment inside the gorge. He was the only one of the Virgin River Gorge workers to die on the job.
