BIOGRAPHYHenry “Harry” Cornelius was born February 8, 1842 in Redruth, Cornwall, England.Harry grew up as a mason boy in Redruth. He immigrated to the United States on the ship Colonist, Glasgow to New York City, arriving on May 30, 1859. In 1860, he was a miner living in Esmeralda, Nevada. In 1870, he was a miner living in Pine Grove, Esmeralda County, Nevada. In 1978, Harry married Mariam Leah Lee (a daughter of John D. Lee) in Virgin. They lived in Silver Reef, Virgin, Toquerville, Hurricane, and on Kolob Mountain. On the 1880 census, Harry & Mariam and a baby boy were living in Silver Reef. They moved to Virgin about 1883. There they owned a good home on Main Street which still stands today. Harry was appointed an election judge for Virgin City in 1885, 1886, and 1889. On Kolob Mountain they had a ranch and raised fine cattle and horses. In 1890, four years after his youngest child was born, Harry abandoned his family. Harry died July 8, 1895 in Eureka, Juab County, Utah Territory and was buried there on July 10, 1895. Mariam married Ezekial Lyon Pratt on July 4, 1894. When he died in 1907, she resumed the surname of Cornelius. She lived alone in Virgin until she died on January 9, 1942. Miriam was buried on January 11, 1942 in the Virgin Cemetery. FAMILY
