THE SECOND ST. GEORGE BOWERY

St. George, Utah

LOCATION

On the block north of the public square, between the Tithing Office and the St. George Hall.

DESCRIPTION

It was 85 feet long, 45 feet wide, and 14 feet in height. The center of the roof was a deck 11 feet wide, supported by stupendous cedar and pine pillars 8 feet apart, with sawed lumber joints bolted firmly to each one of them.

HISTORY

The original bowery in St. George was replaced/supplemented? by this new bowery in 1864, presumably to be done in time for the mid-September visit by President Brigham Young.

This bowery was used for meetings and social events until the St. George Tabernacle was ready for use.
