BIOGRAPHY

Brigham Young was the second President of the Church of Jesus Crist of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) and a key figure in the colonization of the western United States.

He was born on June 1, 1801 in Whitingham, Vermont.

Member of the Quorom of the Twelve Apostles, February 14, 1835 - December 27, 1847.
Second President of the Church, December 27, 1847 - August 29, 1877.

Young died on August 29, 1877 in Salt Lake City.


VISITS TO SOUTHERN UTAH

May 28, 1861:   Visited the southern settlements.

September, 1864:   Visited the southern settlements.

November 9, 1871:   Attended the groundbreaking and dedicated the site of the St. George Temple.

February 15, 1874:   Introduced the subject of the United Order to the Dixie congregation.

May 14, 1876:   Presided over the dedication of the St. George Tabernacle.
