Fred W. Wentzel became a Vice President.In 1964, Fred W. Wentzel who had been President of the Hawthorn Company became Chairman and CEO of Kellwood, a position he held for 27 years. Kellwood grew rapidly through the acquisition of other apparel brands. By the 1990s, it was a billion dollar business. A Kellwood affiliated retail outlet, the Wenzel Outlet Store, opened in 1983. It was renamed Outdoor Outlet in 1984. Kellwood was acquired by Sun Capital Partners in 2008 and was sold off to a private investor group in 2016.
