BIOGRAPHYWilliam Henry Harrison Heap was born in Cedar Grove, Franklin County, Indiana on January 2, 1838.William worked on his father's farm until at the age of 23 he married Mary Whitehead. In 1866, William crossed the plains to Salt Lake City. Mary and their children did not come with him and they eventually separated. William married Sarah Ann Marsh on October 19, 1867 in Salt Lake City. He soon joined the Mormon church and Brigham Young sent them south to settle in Dixie. They were among the group that formed the community of Zion in Zion Canyon. They set up a farm on the west side of the Virgin River, just north of the Emerald Pool stream. He built a log cabin and planted an orchard. He also raised annual crops such as sugar cane, corn, and other garden things. William helped to build homes for the early settlers in Zion. In 1872, Isaac Behunin was getting old and sold out to William Heap for 200 bushels of corn. Behunin then moved on to Mt. Carmel where he remained for the rest of his life. With the establishment of the United Order in Rockville in 1874, William joined and turned over his property in Zion to the corporation. With the collapse of the Order in the Fall of that year, Heap withdrew his share of the proceeds and moved to Bear Lake, Idaho and later on to Star Valley, Wyoming. William took Sarah to the Endowment House in Salt Lake and was sealed to her. He also married Margaret Ann Brown, a half sister of Sarah. William & Sarah lived their final years in Thayne, Lincoln County, Wyoming. William passed away on May 15, 1915 while visiting his daughter, Margaret, in Kemmerer, Lincoln County, Wyoming. He was buried in the Thayne Cemetery. Sarah Ann passed away on February 7, 1919 in Thayne and was buried next to William. FAMILY
