BIOGRAPHYHoward W. Cannon was born in St. George on January 26, 1912.Howard was a pilot in the US Air Force during World War II> He was shot down over Holland while dropping paratroops. He spent 42 days eluding capture before being rescued. He was a awarded a Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Presidential Citation, and French Croix de Guerre. Howard retired from U.S. Air Force Reserve as Major General. Howard Cannon was elected to U.S. Senate from the State of Nevada in 1958 and served four terms (1959-1983). Howard died in Las Vegas on March 6, 2002 and was buried in Section 64 Lot 7076 of the Arlington National Cemetery. FAMILY
