BIOGRAPHYCasper Bryner was born in Weidekon, Zurich, Switzerland on August 14, 1834.Casper joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1854. Casper sailed from Liverpool to Philadelphia on a ship called Juventa. They left on March 31, 1855 and arrived on May 5, 1855. He was accompanied by his sister, Barbara. Casper crossed the plains in the Richard Ballantyne Company, leaving Mormon Grove, Kansas on July 1, 1855 and arriving in Salt Lake City on September 25, 1855. In 1858, Casper was called on a mission by President Brigham Young to go with Joseph Horne's company to Heberville (across the Virgin River from Bloomington) and establish a cotton farm. When one of their members died of Malaria, Casper was assigned to return to Salt Lake with the body. In 1959, Casper moved to Ogden and bought a farm. Casper married Magdalena Gubler in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City on August 17, 1861. At the October 1961 General Conference of the Church, President Brigham Young called Casper & Magdalena to go settle the area in Dixie that would become St. George. The lot he received was on the northwest corner of 300 West and 300 South. He built a home and granary there that still stands today. Casper married Susanna Staheli as a plural wife in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City on December 5, 1870. Casper built a second home and granary. [When? Where?] He also had farms at Tonaquint, Santa Clara, and Washington Fields. Casper and Abraham H. Cannon were sent on a mission to Switzerland in 1880-1881. Casper became ill and had to return home sooner than planned. In 1884, Casper was chosen as a high councilor in the St. George Stake and served in the position for many years. Casper served a term in the Utah State Penitentiary in 1888 for polygamy. Casper died in St. George on April 10, 1914 and was buried on April 13, in Plot A_A_38_3_NE of the St. George City Cemetery.
