HISTORY

The Moses Andrus home was built during the mid 1880's by Moses Andrus. He built the house for his bride, Orpha Morris, the daughter of a pioneer merchant. The actual construction was done by brother-in-law George F. Whitehead.

The house had two stories, with a black lava rock foundation. After the foundation was laid, it was allowed to settle for one year before any more work was done. This was supposed to insure the house against cracking, and it was the proud boast of the Andrus family that the precaution succeeded. The gound floor contained the usual spacious four rooms, living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom. The upstairs rooms were, the same size.

The Andrus family lived in this house until their deaths, more than fifty years after the house's construction. Their six children were born and raised within the walls.

The house remained in the ownership of the family until recently when it was sold and restored as a business establishment.
