LOCATION278 North 100 West (at Diagonal)St. George, UT 84770 HISTORYThis home was built in the early 1880s by George Whitehead for his brother "Ras" Whitehead. It sits on a lava rock foundation and is built of adobe blocks handmade with straw, clay, and horsehair. Beams and wood structures are nailed with handmade square head nails.Erastus & Josephine Whitehead raised seven children here. This was the bed-and-breakfast, An Olde Penny Farthing Inn. It is now the bed-and-breakfast, Ava House Inn & Spa. BIOGRAPHYErastus "Ras" Goddard & Josephine Nixon Whitehead raised seven children. Erastus and his father owned the the A. R. Whitehead and Son Mercantile store on Tabernacle Street which was a very successful business.
