THE DIXIE NAME CONTROVERSY

in Utah's Dixie

ISSUES - VALUE OF THE DIXIE NAME

The "Dixie Spirit" that evolved in southern Utah became a strong motivating and cohesive force.

The Dixie name has come to represent that spirit and has been integrated into the culture of the area.

The Dixie name is a constant symbol and reminder of the unusual and proud history of southern Utah.

ISSUES - PROBLEMS WITH THE DIXIE NAME

Many people outside of southern Utah don't understand the difference between Utah's Dixie and the
Confederate Dixie.

Some people, even if they do understand the difference, choose to ignore it to provide further attention to
their grievances related to the Confederate Dixie.

The origin of the Dixie name was the Confederate Dixie name and many people incorrectly assume that
negative features of the Confederate Dixie came along with the name.
