ZION TRAILS RADIO PROGRAMS

Produced by the Southern Utah Power Company

HISTORY

"Zion Trails" was a series of radio programs that was produced by the Southern Utah Power Company and
was broadcast in 1937 and 1938. The scripts included here are only some of the programs and dramatize
some southern Utah history.

These plays were written for radio and narrated by Allen Cannon from historical material furnished by
William R. Palmer, Mabel Jarvis, Newell R. Frei and others.

While settling the estate of her parents, Joni Butler Payne found these scripts in an old steamer trunk belonging
to her grandfather, Ray Hatch Butler. In an old Pembroke's ream-size box was a triplicate set including an
original and two carbon copies on onion skin paper. Joni donated the original document to the L.D.S. History
Department in Salt Lake City. She kept the second copy and donated the third copy to the Washington County
Historical Society.
