Miscellaneous Notes

NOTES BY DATE

6/7/1873: Pres. Joseph Watson Young died in office while at Harrisburg. He was also the mayor of St. George, 1970-1972.

1872: James Godson Bleak was released as a counselor in the stake presidency when he was called on a mission to England.

6/6/1874: Pres. John Willard Young was the son of Brigham Young and Mary Ann Angell Young.

3/20/1881: Thomas Jefferson Jones was released as Second Counselor in the Stake Presidency when he was called to serve as the Stake President of the Parowan Stake.

1895: Anthony W. Ivins was released as First Counselor in the Stake Presidency to become the Stake President of the Juarez Stake in Mexico. He late became an Apostle.

9/22/1900: Erastus Beamon Snow died while in the Presidency; he was not replaced.

12/31/1930: The St. George Stake had 4,283 members incouding 2 Patriarchs, 200 High Priests, 41 Seventies, 495 Elders, 153 Priests, 163 Teachers, 289 Deacons, 2,008 lay members, and 932 children.

9/28/1941: William H. Prince was released as Second Counselor in the Stake Presidency when he move to Salt Lake.

1/8/1950: Stake Conference was held in the Tabernacle with 1,423 members attending, about 30% of the total members.

3/4-5/1978: Stake Conference was held with Elder David B. Haight presiding.

Moapa Stake created on June 9, 1912 (name changed later to the Logandale Nevada Stake)

Zion Park Stake created on December 8, 1929 (name changed later to the Hurricane Utah Stake)
Uvada Stake created December 15, 1940 (name changed later to the Enterprise Utah Stake)
Las Vegas Nevada Stake created October 10, 1954
Lake Mead Stake created August 19, 1956 (name changed later to the Henderson Nevada Stake)
Las Vegas Nevada North Stake created on November 6, 1960
St. George Utah East Stake created on February 5, 1961
Las Vegas Nevada East Stake created on January 24, 1965
Las Vegas Nevada Central Stake created on February 18, 1968
Las Vegas Nevada South Stake created on March 29, 1970
Lake Mead West Stake created on March 29, 1970 (name changed later to the Henderson Nevada West Stake)
Blythe California Stake created on March 14, 1976 (includes Needles CA which was originally in the St. George Stake)
