DESCRIPTION

The Institute for Continued Learning (ICL) is a program of classes and activities for lifelong learning. Membership consists primarily of retired and semi-retired persons since classes are held during daytime hours. ICL is patterned after similar centers around the country for continued learning in a college environment.

ICL functions under a charter from Dixie State College (DSC) and now Dixie State University (DSU) and is an official oncampus organization. It is governed by a council of volunteers composed of elected members.

Classes are led by volunteers, either retired professionals who have expertise in their subjects or individuals who have skills and interests that they are willing to share. While most of the classes are in Dixie State classrooms, some of the classes are in field-trip format. ICL classes are offered from early September through mid-April. There are no tests, grades, or required attendance. However, class assignments may be required in some classes. ICL members can attend any number of classes. The only cost, other than the $40 annual membership, is an optional parking permit and a lab fee if campus computing facilities are used.

Copies of the ICL Charter, Constitution & By-Laws, and ICL's Policies & Procedures are contained in the booklet, "Charter, Constitution, By-Laws and Code of Conduct" which is provided to all members.
