BIOGRAPHY

Daniel Lester Keate was born in St. George on October 26, 1895. He usually went by the name of Lester.

Lester enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Marine Corps in Salt Lake City on December 13, 1917.
His serial number was 119668. He went to France on May 23, 1918.

Lester was killed in action (KIA) on October 4, 1918 while serving with the 67th Company of Marines in
Champagne, France. He was reported missing in action (MIA) on November 21 and then reported KIA
on January 4, 2019.

His remains were returned home and he was buried in Plot A_G_142_6_EH in the St. George City Cemetery.

Lester Keate Post No. 90 of the American Legion was organized on November 6, 1919. The post was named
for Lester who gave his life for his country.
