JOHN THOMAS COVINGTON

(son of Robert D. Covington)

BIOGRAPHY

John Thomas Covington was born in Summerville, Noxubee County, Mississippi on August 7, 1840.

When John was 3, his family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in 1847 they crossed
the plains to the valley of the Great Salt Lake. In 1857, John's father was called by Brigham Young to take his
family and lead the second group of 28 families down to Washington to establish the Cotton Mission.

In 1862 John met and after a brief courtship, married Johanna Lundblad. The young couple moved to Cache
County, but then returned to Washington. From there, they moved to Beaver and other places, never to reside
again in Washington County.

John served six months in the Utah State Penitentiary for polygamy along with his son-in-law,
Thomas Chamberlain.

John died in Torrey, Wayne County, Utah on June 13, 1908 and on June 17 was buried in Plot C-L8-E1
of the Torrey Cemetery.
