BIOGRAPHY
Note: These are just some accumulated facts, some of which appear to be inaccurate. We are still lookingfor some detailed histories to be able to put together the whole story of James' life.
James Joseph Booth was born in Stockport, Cheshire, England on June 12, 1843.
James married Margaret Holland in Oldham, Lancashire, England on January 10, 1863.
James married Sarah Ann Kenyon in Ashton-under-Lyne, Staleybridge, Cheshire, England on February 24, 1867.
James & Annis emigrated to the United States in March of 1873 and arrived in Salt Lake City in April of 1873. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint in Salt Lake City.
That same summer, they moved to Washington and soon after to St. George.
James & Annis were married in St. George on March 23, 1877. On that same day, James took Esther Elizabeth Tye as a plural wife.
James was a photographer who took many of the photographs that now give us a pictorial history of the Cotton Mission. His son (also James Joseph Booth) joined the family business and was also a photographer.
James left St. George on October 15, 1887 for a mission in England, returning in mid-1889.
James died in St. George on April 11, 1897. His funeral was held in the Tabernacle on April 12 and he was buried in Plot A_E_94_3_NH of the St. George City Cemetery.
