GLENN HANKS WYLER MD
(physician & surgeon, Army veteran)
BIOGRAPHY
Glenn Hanks Wyler was born in Salem, Utah on August 9,1917. He grew up in Payson, Utah and graduatedfrom Payson High School in 1934.
Glenn earned a B.S. degree in Science from the University of Utah in 1938. He followed that with 2 years of
medical school (all that was offered at that time). He finished medical school at the University of Louisville,
Kentucky, earning his M.D. degree in 1942. He served his internship at the Tacoma General Hospital in
Tacoma, Washington.
Glenn was in the Army Reserves, so as soon as he finished his training, he was called to active duty. He served
as a surgeon on a troop transport ship from 1944 to 1946. Dr. Wyler served in the U.S. Army for 6 years rising
to the rank of Major.
Following military service, Dr. Wyler started a private medical practice in Roosevelt, Utah.
But during the Korean Conflict, he was again called to active duty in the Army and served from 1951 to 1953
in Augsberg, Germany and Fontainebleau, France.
In 1955, Dr. Wyler resumed private medical practice in Fairfield, California.
In 1972, Dr. Wyler moved to St. George where he continued his practice of medicine.
Dr. Wyler retired from his medical practice in 1986.
Glenn died in St. George on December 21, 1999. Funeral services were held in the Metcalf Mortuary chapel on
December 27. He was buried on December 28, 1999 in Plot West-6-156-3-E of the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
