BIOGRAPHYCornelius McReavy was born in Carlisle, Cumberland, England on November 26, 1845.Cornelius married Mary Ann Martin on March 20, 1864. Cornelius arrived in Washington in October of 1873. He had been offered a job as the dyer at the Washingon Cotton Factory. Cornelius married Carlsine Carlfine Bergman as a plural wife in St. George on September 22, 1882 Cornelius was convicted of unlawful cohabitation in December of 1888. He was fined $300 and imprisoned in the Utah Territorial Penitentiary from December 19, 1888 to June 17, 1889. Cornelius served as counselor to Bishop Andrew Sproul Sr. from September 1896 to 1903 in the Washington Ward. After the factory closed, Cornelius grew grapes and made wine. The Church used the unfermented wine in sacrament services. He let the excess wine ferment and sold it to the gentiles (and some members). He was in the bishopric and the church leaders told him to quit selling the wine. He didn’t and they released from the bishopric. He was fined several times for some violations related to the selling of the wine. Cornelius was the mayor of Wasington from 1911 to 1913. In 1913, Cornelius and family moved to Provo to live with his son Joseph. Cornelius spent the last year of his life in the Old Folks Home in Salt Lake City. Cornelius died in Salt Lake City on January 26, 1929 and was buried in the Provo City Cemetery. FAMILY
