HISTORY

Alva Greene was a businessman, having retired from the JC Penney Company. After returning from being an LDS mission president in Manchester, England, he was looking to invest in a business. He invited Don Moss to join him in a new restaurant venture. Don was the first Chuck-A-Rama employee. He left Boise Cascade Company in April 1966 to learn as much as possible about the restaurant business. Soon after, in June 1966, Don's brother-in-law, Wayne Chamberlain, left the Ford Motor Company in California to join the venture. They bought an old grocery store building at 744 East 400 South in Salt Lake City and opened the first Chuck-A-Rama restaurant there on September 26, 1966. They did it all: the cooking, the cleaning, the accounting, the janitorial work, everything. In 1971, Don and Wayne bought out Alva. Then in 1976, Don bought out Wayne when Wayne was called to be a mission president in Calgary, Canada.

Don opened a Chuck-A-Rama in St. George on November 7, 1995 at 350 East St. George Blvd.

Sometime prior to December of 2003, the St. George Chuck-A-Rama moved to its new location at 127 N. Red Cliffs Drive. This was a newer, larger, and better located facility. The old building has seen a number of different tenants and is currently occupied by the Ocean Buffet.
