DESCRIPTION

The Dixie Applied Technology College (DXATC) is one of eight regional colleges that comprise the Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT). DXATC is the premier college for skill and competency based training in Washington County.

The UCAT Board of Trustees provides oversight and governs the activities of the eight campuses.

UCAT is charged with providing relevant skill and competency based training to prepare students for good jobs.

HISTORY

DXATC was created during a special session of the Utah State Legislature in 2001 through House Bill 1003 which created the Utah College of Applied Technology and its eight regional campuses: Bridgerland, Davis, Dixie, Mountainland, Ogden-Weber, Tooele, Southwest, and Uintah Basin.

Originally, the school was housed in half of the former Harmon's grocery store building (now Dixie State University's North Plaza Building).

The DXATC campus now occupies several buildings in the Tonaquint Business Park.

Sometime in the next few years, a new campus will be built on part of the old airport on the mesa west of St. George including about 20 acres around the old terminal building.
