DESCRIPTION

Dixie Poets is a chapter of the Utah State Poetry Society (UTSPS) for anyone interested in developing
their poetry skills. Bi-monthly meetings include a short lesson on poetry and gentle critiques of original poetry.
Bring 10 copies of your work to share. Other activities include:
  • Supporting UTSPS's yearly April Awards Program with contest entries
  • Annual Poetry in the Park
  • Redrock Creative Writing Seminar
  • Chaparral Contest in early Spring in the St. George area
  • October Poet of the Year presentation
  • St. George Literary Arts Festival


HISTORY

The Utah State Poetry Society (UTSPS) was established as a non-profit organization in the state of Utah in
1955. There are now 8 chapters throughout the state: in St. George, Kanab, Provo, Salt Lake City, Bountiful,
Brigham City, and an online chapter Hinterlands.

Dixie Poets, the St. George chapter, was started by LaVerna Johnson and D. Gary Christian in about the
year 2000.
