HEBERVILLE CO-OPERATIVE FARMING COMPANY

Heberville, Utah

LOCATION

TBD

HISTORY

In 1872, Elder Erastus Snow encouraged several of the local brethren to create a cooperative farming company and to reclaim the abandoned Heberville farm. Robert Gardner was named president of the cooperative farm. Gardner, Ellis M. Sanders, William Atkin, and others purchased the property from the previous owners through the issuance of stock interest in future earnings. Over the next two years, they farmed at Heberville attempting to raise crops. But their coop began to unravel as families again abandoned Heberville for other settlements. The high cost of irrigation appears to have contributed to the decline.

William F. Butler worked as a farmer and in 1875, he became the foreman of the Price City Co-operative Farming Company, a part of the defunct Heberville Co-operative Farming Company.
