BIOGRAPHY

David H. Cannon was born 4/23/1838 in Liverpool, England. He was called to the Cotton Mission at the LDS Church General Conference on 10/6/1961. He and Wilhelmina left Salt Lake on 11/3/1861 and arrived at the St. George campground on 12/3/1861. They moved onto their town lot in January of 1862. David served at least two terms as Sheriff. He was a Bishop and then High Counselor before becoming a Counselor in one of the early St. George Stake Presidencies. When the St. George Temple was completed, David H. Cannon was called to be an assistant to the first two Temple Presidents, Wilford Woodruff and John D. T. McAllister. Then he served as President of the St. George Temple from 8/28/1893 until his death. He was one of the founders of the Dixie Stake Academy in 1911. He died in St. George on 12/27/1924 and is buried in the St. George City Cemetery.
