Reissued in 1941 as "Mormon Conquest", this bottom-of-the-barrel entry from Victor Adamson/Art Mix/Denver Dixon productions finds jobless cowpuncher Jim Kirk riding into Cottonwood, Arizona looking for the man who swindled his father. Old pal Art James tells him that Ed Calder, a shady rancher who moved in a few months ago, might be his man. Jim joins Art at the Crazy K Ranch owned by Sam Kent and his daughter Sally, with Bill Dobbs as their foreman. Jim saves Sally from badman Lynx Merson, who is out to get her father for past transgressions. Later, it is discovered that El Garto, a bandit from below the border, is actually Merson, and is working with Calder. (Plot written by Les Adams)

Ramona

An area near the Temple of Sinwava was leveled for the ranch house. The house was later torn down and turned into a parking lot.
A cabin was built on one of the peaks. After the filming, it was torn down but the remnants are still there.

The Conqueror

This CinemaScope movie was filmed in Snow Canyon, St. George, and Hurricane during a 13-week stretch in 1954-1955. Some filming was also done at the RKO Studios in Hollywood.
It was produced by Howard Hughes and directed by Dick Powell.
It featured John Wayne, Susan Hayward, Agnes Moorehead, and Pedro Armendáriz. Many St George people were used as extras.
There was a lot of controversy surrounding this film when many of the cast and crew came down with cancer, possibly due to the fallout from nearby atomic tests during that period. 91 of the 220 cast and crew had contracted cancer by 1981 with 46 deaths and others came down with cancer after that.

The film was released on March 28, 1956, but due to the controversy, Hughes withdrew the film until releasing it for TV in 1974.

This 30-minute black & white TV episode (Season 1, Episode 26) deals with Hurricane Mesa.

The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing

This western starred Burt Reynolds, Lee Cobb, George Hamilton, Jay Silverheels, and others.
Some of the redrock filming was done north of St. George near Snow canyon. The Indian Village was shot by Virgin Utah on the Virgin River (you can see Zion in the Background). There is also a shot that was done near the Washington Dam (you can see the mountain south of the dam in the background). The rest of the movie was shot around Kanab, in the Paria area below Bryce Canyon, and in Arizona.

They Came to Cordura

Filming started on the the west side of where I-15 is now, just north of St. George. Remnants of the set still remain. But they quit filming there due to a record cold snap. Production was finished in Las Vegas with most of the St. George shots being redone.

As 85-year-old President Lorenzo Snow struggles to vanquish the two million dollar indebtedness of the Mormon church in 1899, he feels inspired to journey from Salt Lake City by train and carriage to St. George in southern Utah. Along the way he witnesses the effects of severe drought. The next day, in the St. George Tabernacle, he receives inspiration that by paying tithing, the "windows of heaven" will open, pouring out blessings. He promises the people that they can plant crops and rain will come, then continues to preach tithing as he returns home where he awaits favorable weather reports from St. George.
