The St. George East Stake was formed on February 5, 1961 when it was split off of the St. George Stake. This was the 322nd stake formed in the LDS church.A church-wide policy that went into effect on February 1, 1974 to name stakes with a city name followed by a state name. As a result, the St. George East Stake was renamed the St. George Utah East Stake.
