HISTORY

In the early 1970s, Orvil Wright of Hurricane donated about 6-7 acres of property on Kolob Mountain to be used for a community center, church, and cemetery.

The community center was built in 1973-1974 and the adjacent cemetery was started in 2006.

The community center and cemetery are run by the Kolob Mountain Community Center Association, a non-profit corporation. Rental fees are used to pay expenses and do improvements to the building and grounds. All the work is donated and they have an annual Kolob Days fundraiser with a dinner and door prizes the first weekend in August.

The community center can be rented for $100.00 per day for reunions, parties, weddings, etc. That includes access to a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a large inside area with tables and chairs. The rental also includes approximately 3.5 acres for parking trailers, setting up tents, and to use as a play area for things like horseshoes, volleyball, baseball, etc. There is no outside water or sewer so there is only "dry" camping. Groups of up to 100 people are accepted. 4-wheelers/ATVs are not allowed on the property. Since all the property (except the main road) is private, there isn't really any places to ride ATVs up there.
