UTAH STATE HISTORY AWARDS
2009 Outstanding Achievement in Archaeology Award
Protection of Utah’s Archaeological Sites on Private Lands
Hurricane’s forward-looking planning staff and city council
has put in place amendments to the city’s Sensitive Lands Ordinance
that provide protection for archaeological sites within the city boundaries.
To our knowledge, this is the first municipal ordinance within Utah
that considers archaeological site preservation.
State History presents to Teri Foran and Deeona Cox, planners for the City of Hurricane,
an award for Outstanding Achievement in Archaeology.
2009 Outstanding Contribution to History Award
Preserving the History of Fort Harmony
Roger Simister has devoted countless hours to the history of Fort Harmony. One of the founders of the Ft. Harmony Historical Society, he has created and maintains a website, videotaped lectures and interviews about the history, documented an archaeological dig, and put together a presentation. His work will benefit people for generations to come.
State History presents Roger Simister an award for Outstanding Contribution to History.
